We think it is important to note the paper type on which we print, so we like to mention it in the descriptions of our cards. If you are unfamiliar with printing or paper, it may not seem like a significant detail – but it is! Paper its own terminology and we will show you the ropes!
Cover: This is a way of describing the stiffness of a sheet of paper. Cover is more comparable to the cover of a paperback novel. It is not quite cardboard, but very sturdy.
Text: This is paper that is similar to the texture of a magazine sheet – thinner. This is used more for posters and brochures.
Both types are available in Glossy and Matte. Glossy refers to, you guessed it, the gloss of the paper. While matte doesn’t have the gloss.
Paper in pounds (80lb): Thankfully, the piece of paper doesn’t weigh that much! The lb term (usually in 24, 70, 80, 100) means the weight of the parent sheet (aka the big sheet from which it is cut, at the paper mills). It is really a measure of density, the terms listed above relate more to the stiffness of the sheet.
So! One half of Coyne and Pinckney is schooled (literally!) in paper and we knew that quality paper would always be an essential part of our business. We use 80lb cover stock that is premium quality for all of our cards.
In fact, as a student and graduate student who has written many letters, notes and reports – I can tell the difference of this paper! It has an almost silky quality to it and is honestly quite lovely to just jot on for work or for personal use. I hope you enjoyed the info. and know that we will always provide quality paper for our stationery.
